Back when paper was invented it was the biggest thing since the wheel. The printing press was able to communicate people's ideas and the world in general became less static. Information from one part of the world was able to influence another and the "world culture" in general become more diversified.
Today the internet and the notebook computer have done exactly the same thing all over again and exponentially more so. Information today is spread faster than ever before and ideas are constantly shaping one another into a smoother and more refined world view.
The notebook computer has allowed for people to go anywhere and share their ideas instantly via the internet through blogs or websites and forums. Being small and portable, people could now utilize their time more efficiently in spreading information to one another than having to reserve time to specifically go to an internet cafe or library just to communicate. Eventually with the invention of online storage the notebook computer will be the only way to go and we will each have a tiny digital extension of ourselves in the greater Net of humanity.
